Dosbarth Maple

Dosbarth Maple

Welcome to the Maple family!

I am pleased to be your child’s teacher this year with Mrs Morgan who will teach our class every Friday. Miss Arthur and Mrs Cartwright will be supporting us in class.

During their time in the Nursery and Reception class your child will have opportunities to develop a variety of skills and their independence as learners. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

“Play is the answer to how anything new comes about.” - Jean Piaget

Our Topic

Topics this year are:

Autumn – Marvellous Minds

Spring – Blame it on the Weatherman

Summer – Food Glorious Food

In Welsh our focus language patterns will include greetings and feelings.

In Literacy we will be reading a collection of books linked to our topic.

Nursery children will learn a collection of Nursery Rhymes and develop their language skills through play. The children will have opportunities to mark make using a variety of writing implements e.g. felt pens, chalk, paint brushes etc.

Reception children will practice recognising their sounds on a daily basis and developing their oral blending skills. Written work will include writing our name, lists and captions for pictures.

In Maths, learning will include matching, sorting, size, exploring pattern and an introduction into 2D shapes. We will also be representing and comparing numbers, comparing amounts and saying the number that is one more and one less than a given number.

Physical Development

Nursery - Physical Development will take place in our outdoor provision on a daily basis. Nursery children do not require a P.E. kit.

Reception - PE sessions are on a Tuesday.

Reception children will need to come to school wearing a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts, leggings or joggers, school jumper or cardigan and trainers.

Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.

Reading

Reading is a gift for life. Please encourage your child to develop a love of reading through sharing and talking about books, comics and magazines that interest them. A new book will come home every Friday in a named wallet and returned on a Thursday. Please listen to your child read as often as possible and practise your phonic flashcards on a daily basis.

Snack

Our school is part of the Healthy Schools Initiative. Please support our school and ensure that your child has a healthy snack every day (one item)  e.g. fruit or veg. Children are provided with a free carton of milk. Please provide a named bottle of water.

Uniform

Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.

End of day arrangements

Please inform  Mrs Pearce (School Secretary) if you have made alternative arrangements for the collection of your child at the end of the day.

We are looking forward to building positive relationships with yourself and your child so if you have any questions please feel free to send a message via SEESAW or alternatively telephone the school.

Thank you for your continued support.
