Welcome to the Willow family!
I am pleased to be your child’s teacher this year. Mrs Newell, Miss Arthur and Mrs Nuttall will be supporting me in class.
During your time in the Reception class your child will have opportunities to develop a variety of skills to develop their independence as learners. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.
“Play is the answer to how anything new comes about.” - Jean Piaget
This term our topic is ‘The Green, Green Grass of Home’ and we will learn many new and exciting things. We will be focusing on where we live and the Welsh culture and heritage. We will also be looking at the seasons of autumn and winter.
In Welsh our focus language patterns will include greetings and feelings.
In Literacy we will be reading a collection of books linked to our topic. We will practice recognising our sounds on a daily basis and develop our oral blending skills. Written work will include writing our name, lists and captions for pictures.
In Maths, learning will include matching, sorting, size, exploring pattern and an introduction into 2D shapes. We will also be representing and comparing numbers, comparing amounts and saying the number that is one more and one less than a given number.
PE sessions are on Thursday. Children will need to come to school wearing a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts or joggers, a jacket and trainers. Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.
Reading is a gift for life. Please encourage your child to develop a love of reading through sharing and talking about books, comics and magazines that interest them. A new book will come home every Thursday in a named wallet and to be returned on a Wednesday. Please listen to your child read as often as possible and practise recognising sounds on a daily basis.
Our school is part of the Healthy Schools Initiative. Please support our school and ensure that your child has a healthy snack every day for morning break e.g. fruit or veg. Children are provided with a free carton of milk. Also please provide a named bottle of water.
Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.
End of day arrangements
Please inform the class teacher or Mrs Pearce (School Secretary) if you have made exceptional arrangements for the collection of your child at the end of the day.
We are looking forward to building positive relationships with yourself and your child so if you should have any questions please feel free to send a message via SEESAW or alternatively telephone the school.
Thank you for your continued support.
