Dosbarth Willow

Dosbarth Willow

Welcome to the Willow family!

I am pleased to be your child’s teacher this year. Mrs Hardman, Mrs H-C, Miss Edwards, Mrs Gough, Mrs Henders, and Miss Jones will be supporting me in class.

During their time in the Nursery class your child will have opportunities to develop a variety of skills and their independence as learners. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

“Play is the answer to how anything new comes about.” - Jean Piaget

Our school topics this year are:

Autumn – A Step in Time

Spring – Journeys

Summer – Just imagine

Our Curriculum

Throughout the year, Nursery children will experience a range of seasonal and topic related activities that will enable them to develop their skills within the areas of learning - Humanities, Expressive Arts, Science & Technology, and Health & Well-being.

In Literacy we will be reading a collection of books linked to our topic. We will focus on activities that promote the development of speaking and listening. In writing we will be exploring making marks using a range of materials and develop our emergent writing skills. We will be learning to recognise our name and print in our environment. In Welsh our focus language patterns will include greetings and feelings.

In Maths, learning will include matching, sorting, size, exploring pattern and an introduction into 2D shapes. We will also be representing and comparing numbers, comparing amounts and saying the number that is one more and one less than a given number.

Physical Development

Nursery - PE sessions are on a Friday.

Children will need to come to school wearing a white t-shirt, black/navy shorts, leggings or joggers, school jumper or cardigan and trainers.

Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.

Welly Wednesday

Nursery children will take part in a range of outdoor activities during our ‘Welly Wednesday’ session which takes place in our forest school area. Children will need to come to school wearing appropriate outdoor clothing. Please ensure that your child bring their wellies in a labelled bag.

Reading is a gift for life. Please encourage your child to develop a love of reading through sharing and talking about books, comics and magazines that interest them. A new book will come home every Wednesday in a named wallet and returned on the following Tuesday. Please read to your child  as often as possible and practise reading and writing their name using the personalised name cards.

Our school is part of the Healthy Schools Initiative. Please support our school and ensure that your child has a healthy snack every day (one item) for morning break e.g. fruit or veg. Children are provided with a free carton of milk. Please provide a named bottle of water.

Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.

End of day arrangements

Please inform the class teacher or Mrs Pearce (School Secretary) if you have made alternative arrangements for the collection of your child at the end of the day.

We are looking forward to building positive relationships with yourself and your child so if you should have any questions please feel free to send a message via SEESAW or alternatively telephone the school.

Thank you for your continued support.
