Dosbarth Beech

Welcome to Dosbarth Beech,

We are so happy to be starting the children’s learning journey in their final year, in Year 6.

Our main focus is always the children’s Health and Wellbeing, learning through encouragement, challenge and fun.  Last terms topic was, Marvellous Minds, and the children learnt all about how powerful their minds are and the impact the World and themselves can have on it.  We researched other peoples, 'Marvellous Minds' and also took a deeper look into Mental Health and the impacts of Social Media and life's pressures upon it. Liaqat Rasul also inspired us with his story and his amazing Art work, taking us on an amazing journey from Wrexham to Delhi!.  We were led by the children and their interests through this topic.  We looked at our local area and compared and contrast with many other places around the world.

This Spring Term, we are, Blaming it on the Weatherman!' Quite literally!  We are planning to research weathers all around the World and start to investigate futher why we have such adverse weathers from year to year.  we will also creat a Newspaper reoport on our very own hall roof blowing off and the effect it has had on not only our school but also our other local business'.  We are basing our Science topics around weather, invesiagting the amount of rain water over time and even creating our own mini tornadoes in a jar!

All our teaching will be based on the 4 purposes and the new curriculum.

We will have P.E. each week on a Wednesday, beginning with Swimming. The children can come to school in their P.E. kit on a P.E. day. This kit is a plain white t-shirt, blue/black joggers or leggings or shorts and trainers.  Please ensure long hair is tied back, especially on these days, and no jewellery is worn.  the children then experience the amazing Forest School with Mrs CD on a Thursday - rain or shine!

Homework – The children will be encouraged to read daily and practise their times tables.  Hopefully this will encourage some independence at home and also incorporates our 5 Ways to Wellbeing. We will be looking at a new spelling pattern each week and these can also be practised at home.

5 Ways to Wellbeing – includes Be Active, Keep Learning, Connect, Give and Take Notice.

Reading is so essential in all their lifelong learning and we would like to encourage the children to read daily. Where possible, to an adult to help support their understanding and coherence.

We will post some of the children’s work, announcements and reminders on Seesaw.  Please contact us on this site or phone the school with any concerns.

We are looking forward to a great year creating wonderful memories.
