Dosbarth Oak

Croeso i Dosbarth Oak,Ā

I am so happy to be starting the children’s learning journey for their time in Year 5.

Our main focus is always the children’s Health and well-being, learning through encouragement, challenge and fun.Ā  LastĀ terms topic was 'Marvellous Minds' where the children learnt all about how powerful their minds are and the impact the World and themselves can have on them.Ā  They researched other people, 'Marvellous Minds' and took a deeper look into Mental Health, the impacts of Social Media, and life's pressures upon it. Liaqat RasulĀ  also inspired us with his story and his amazing Artwork, taking us on an amazing journey from Wrexham to Delhi!Ā  The children and their interests led us through this topic.Ā  We looked at our local area and compared it with many other places around the world.Ā

This Spring term we are 'blaming it on the weatherman'... quite literally! We are planning to research weathers around the world and start to investigate further why we experience such adverse weathers from year to year. We will also create a newspaper report on our very own school roof blowing off and the effect it has had not only on our school but on local businesses too. We are basing our Science topic around the weather, investigaing the amount of rainfall over time and even creating our own mini tornados in a jar!Ā

All our teaching will be based on the 4 purposes and the new curriculum.Ā

We haveĀ P.E. every Thursday. The children can come to school in their P.E. kit on these days. The P.E. kit is a plain white T-shirt, blue/black joggers or leggings or shorts, and trainers.Ā  Please ensure long hair is tied back and stud earrings only.Ā

Homework:Ā The children will be encouraged to read daily and practise their times tables.Ā  Hopefully this will encourage some independence at home and also incorporates our 5 Ways to Wellbeing. We will be looking at a new spelling pattern each week and these can also be practised at home.

5 Ways to Wellbeing – includesĀ Be Active,Ā Connect,Ā Give,Ā Keep LearningĀ andĀ Take Notice.Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā

ReadingĀ is so essential in all their lifelong learning and we would like to encourage the children to read daily. Where possible, to an adult to help support their understanding and coherence.Ā Ā

We will post some of the children’s work, announcements and reminders on Seesaw.Ā  Please contact us on this site or phone the school with any concerns.

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  I look forward to creating lots of memories throughout the year.
