Croeso i Dosbarth Sycamore,
I am Miss Parry and I am so happy to be starting the children’s learning journey for their time in Year 5 and those who are in Year 6, for their final year. The main focus is always the children’s health and well-being; learning through encouragement, challenge and fun. Â
Autumn Term's topic was 'Marvellous Minds' where the children learnt all about how powerful their minds are and the impact the World and themselves can have on them. We took a deeper look into Mental Health, the impacts of Social Media, and life's pressures upon it. Liaqat Rasul inspired us with his story and his artistic approach, taking us on an amazing journey from Wrexham to Delhi!Â
Spring Term's topic is 'Blame it on the Weatherman'. The children and their interests will lead us through this topic. We will look at our local area and compare and contrast with many other places around the world to investigate natural disasters. We also plan to write a newspaper report on our very own disaster... Our roof blowing off because of Storm Darragh! We will discover why we are now having such adverse weathers across the globe and look into ways we can help our planet.Â
All our teaching will be based on the 4 purposes and the new curriculum.Â
We have P.E. on Thursday. The children can come to school in their P.E. kit on these days. The P.E. kit is a plain white T-shirt, blue/black joggers or leggings or shorts, and trainers. Please ensure long hair is tied back and stud earrings only.
Homework: The children will be encouraged to read daily and practise their times tables. Hopefully this will encourage some independence at home and also incorporates our 5 Ways to Wellbeing. We will be looking at a new spelling pattern each week and these can also be practised at home.
5 Ways to Wellbeing – includes Be Active, Connect, Give, Keep Learning and Take Notice.                     Â
Reading is so essential in all their lifelong learning and we would like to encourage the children to read daily. Where possible, to an adult to help support their understanding and coherence. Â
We will post some of the children’s work, announcements and reminders on Seesaw. Please contact us on this site or phone the school with any concerns.
I look forward to creating lots of memories throughout the year.
