Dosbarth Cedar

Croeso i Dosbarth Cedar,

I am so happy to be starting the children’s learning journey for their time in Year 3/4.

Our main focus is always the children’s Health and well-being, learning through encouragement, challenge and fun.  Our first term topic is 'Marvellous Minds' where the children will be learning all about how powerful their minds are and the impact the World and themselves can have on them.  We will be researching other people, 'Marvellous Minds'. The children and their interests will lead us through this topic.  We will look at our local area and compare and contrast with many other places around the world.  All our teaching will be based on the 4 purposes and the new curriculum.

Our second term topic is 'Blame it on the weatherman', where we will be looking at different types of weather, extreme weather and the consequences, and looking at natural and man made disasters. We will complete data bases on weather in different countries and work through weather based experiments. This will all coincide with our story, 'The Windmill Farmer'

We have P.E. every TUESDAY. The children can come to school in their P.E. kit on these days. The P.E. kit is a plain white T-shirt, blue/black joggers or leggings or shorts, and trainers.  Please ensure long hair is tied back and stud earrings only.

This term we have forest school on a FRIDAY and every other TUESDAY with Mrs H-C, children can come to school in school uniform and change into their forest school kit. Children/Parents will be notified via seesaw when it is theor turn for forest school.

Homework: The children will be encouraged to read daily and practise their times tables.  Hopefully this will encourage some independence at home and also incorporates our 5 Ways to Wellbeing. We will be looking at a new spelling pattern each week and these can also be practised at home.

5 Ways to Wellbeing – includes Be Active, Connect, Give, Keep Learning and Take Notice.

Reading is so essential in all their lifelong learning and we would like to encourage the children to read daily. Where possible, to an adult to help support their understanding and coherence.  Please remeber to read a minimun of 4 times a week, sign the records and bring to school every day to be checked. We will use the records on Wednesday to add the points to the charts.

We will post some of the children’s work, announcements and reminders on Seesaw.  Please contact us on this site or phone the school with any concerns.

I look forward to creating lots of memories throughout the year.

Mr Morrow-Powell and Mrs Bithell
