Dosbarth Oak
I am so happy to be starting the children’s learning journey for their time in Year 5.
Our main focus is always the children’s Health and well-being, learning through encouragement, challenge and fun. This terms topic is 'Marvellous Minds' where the children will be learning all about how powerful their minds are and the impact the World and themselves can have on them. We will be researching other people, 'Marvellous Minds' and taking a deeper look into Mental Health, the impacts of Social Media, and life's pressures upon it. Liaqat Rasul will also inspire us with his story and his amazing Artwork, taking us on an amazing journey from Wrexham to Delhi! The children and their interests will lead us through this topic. We will look at our local area and compare and contrast with many other places around the world. All our teaching will be based on the 4 purposes and the new curriculum.
We have P.E. every Thursday. The children can come to school in their P.E. kit on these days. The P.E. kit is a plain white T-shirt, blue/black joggers or leggings or shorts, and trainers. Please ensure long hair is tied back and stud earrings only.
This term we have forest school on a Tuesday with Mrs CD, children can come to school in their forest school clothes with a full change of clothes in a bag.
Homework: The children will be encouraged to read daily and practise their times tables. Hopefully this will encourage some independence at home and also incorporates our 5 Ways to Wellbeing. We will be looking at a new spelling pattern each week and these can also be practised at home.
5 Ways to Wellbeing – includes Be Active, Connect, Give, Keep Learning and Take Notice.
Reading is so essential in all their lifelong learning and we would like to encourage the children to read daily. Where possible, to an adult to help support their understanding and coherence.
We will post some of the children’s work, announcements and reminders on Seesaw. Please contact us on this site or phone the school with any concerns.
I look forward to creating lots of memories throughout the year.
