CRIW CYMRAEG

Croeso i Criw Cymraeg!

We are very lucky to have dedicated pupils within our Criw Cymraeg at Ysgol Y Waun, who are passionate about promoting the Welsh language and culture.

What do we do?

Bob Dydd (daily) Bob Wythnos (weekly) Yn Aml (often)
Be role models for the Welsh language. Meet as the Criw Cymraeg to make decisions. Organise fun days to celebrate Welsh culture - Santes Dwynwen, Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, Diwrnod Owain Glyndŵr
Gwrandewch (listen) for Welsh speakers. Award those who are trying in with Seren Yr Wythnos. Run competitions/fundraising events.
Encourage others.  Lead the Criw Cymraeg assemblies. Make sure there is Welsh all around the school!

Our latest event has been our St. David's Day competition. We had a whole school task to create daffodils that would be put on display in St. Collen's Church, in Llangollen for their Flower Festival. Year 5 and 6 members of Criw Cymraeg led the whole school assembly, and provided prizes and rewards to our finalists. Year 3 and 4 Criw Cymraeg kept an eye out for those who were singing our songs with pride, and rewarded them with stickers.

On Lloyd's Lane, Criw Cymraeg made a ffantasteg effort to raise money by having a bake sale dedicated to Santes Dwynwen, who is the Patron Saint of Lovers in Wales. Not only to raise money, but to spread awareness of her story. We celebrated on January 25th, where we raised over £200! It went down a treat! We plan to spend the money on making our school an even better place, that promotes Welsh language and identity.

The simple objective of the Language Charter is to provide a clear framework, which can be used to promote and increase the use of Welsh by children in a whole school context. In a nutshell, the Charter’s main aim is to promote a strong Welsh ethos in our school and to provide a range of enriching activities that propel the children to enjoy learning Welsh.

We are now aiming to achieve the Silver Award (Gwobr Arian)
