Welcome to Juniper Class!
Mrs McCunnell (Mon- Wed) and Mrs Rowlands (Thur- Fri) are pleased to be your child’s teachers this year, we are supported in our class by Mrs Beddows and Mrs Downs.
This term our topic is ‘Super Seasons’ and we will learn many new and exciting things. We will be focusing on Woodland animals, the senses and the effects the seasons have on some animals. We will investigate how materials change with an exciting ice queen experiment and explore sources of light. We will be studying the Welsh artist Tim Pugh and creating our own environmental art using natural materials found in our local environment. Our Design and Technology focus will be to make choices and develop an understanding of the design process.
In Welsh our focus language patterns will include greetings, feelings and the weather.
In Literacy we will be reading ‘Scaredy Squirrel’ and ‘Stickman‘. Written work will include instructions, information text, poetry and imaginative story writing.
In Maths learning will include number recognition, place value, odd and even numbers, symmetry, days of the week, the months and seasons of the year, data handling and to recognise and understand the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
PE sessions are on Monday. Children will need a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps. Please ensure that all clothing has your child’s name on it.
Homework Information for Parents
A termly grid of homework challenges will be sent home for you complete with your child. You will have whole term to complete these challenges as and when you have time. Once a challenge is complete please return to school so we can share your amazing home learning.
Reading is a gift for life. Please encourage your child to develop a love of reading through sharing and talking about books, comics and magazines that interest them. A new book will come home every week, please listen to your child read as often as possible and remember to write a comment in the Reading Record.
Our school is part of the Healthy Schools Initiative. Please support our school and ensure that your child has a healthy snack every day for morning break. Children are provided with a free carton of milk and have access to water throughout the school day.
End of day arrangements
Please inform the class teacher or Mrs Pearce (School Secretary) if you have made exceptional arrangements for the collection of your child at the end of the day.
